Hello, my name is Angelica.

I’m a New York-based artist, curator, and art historian. I’m driven by my passion for public access to art and deeply invested in advocating for artists.

My artistic practice stems from my upbringing as a creative and playful child. I was surrounded by culture and art that was integrated into my life. My family was full of artists, creatives, and makers, but they did not call themselves artists because this language around contemporary art was not available to them as Mexican American immigrants. They were simply being themselves, and creating was necessary to survive. I have come to realize how this way of life mirrors the ideologies of canonical American artists who challenged the boundaries between art and life, the legacies of whom I now contemplate at the wheel as a ceramicist.

My practice as a ceramicist began in July of 2025. I create functional and sculptural forms for everyday life. My pieces are inspired by the materiality of clay: its earthiness, its inherent femininity, and its connection to the divine. Pottery as a practice contains characteristics that contradict each other: it is messy and silly, yet requires the body to be grounded and controlled. It allows me to explore and perform, but begs for repetition and consistency. It’s a medium that constantly surprises me yet gives me great comfort.
